Safety Questions:
Wilsonville Parks and Recreation is working with summer camp providers to implement extensive measures around physical distancing and sanitation for campers, families and staff this summer. We are working diligently to implement practices that will follow Oregon Health Authority Guidelines for summer camps.
What changes are you making for 2020 Summer Camps?
Heads up- this summer will look a little different. We are reducing the number of camps offered so we can maintain smaller, stable group sizes. Each camp will have no more than 10 kids in the same group, with the same staff for the duration of the camp. Camps will encourage social distancing in groups as much as possible. Additional sanitation processes and practices will also be in effect this summer. It is recommended that you send your child(ren) to camp with the following: a small bottle of hand sanitizer and a small bottle of hand soap.
How will sport camps be different this summer?
Every effort is being made by our sport camp providers to eliminate physical contact within each sport. Traditional game play must be modified this summer to achieve social distancing. Sport camps will utilize skills drills in pairs, and encourage healthy competition by utilizing activities such as time trials, and relay race type drills.
Will Wilsonville Parks and Recreation track any illness symptoms or outbreaks?
Yes. We will be checking for symptoms of new coughs or fevers for anyone entering the area where there are campers. If summer camp staff suspects an illness or infection, staff will isolate the camper and contact a parent or guardian so they can go home.
If campers or staff, or anyone in their household, has recently had an illness with a fever or a new cough, they should remain at home until:
- At least 10 days after illness onset
- 72 hours after the fever is gone without using fever-reducing medicine
- Symptoms are improving
Campers or staff who have had direct exposure to COVID-19, will not be able to return until 14 days after the exposure, assuming they do not exhibit symptoms. We will also be keeping daily logs for each stable group to help identify anyone at-risk, should there be any illness associated with a camper or a staff member.
Will campers and staff have to wear face coverings?
Staff will not be required to wear a face covering when with their stable group of campers unless they are leaving the program area or interacting with another group for a safety reason. Campers will also not be required to wear face coverings while attending. Staff and campers are welcome to wear face coverings, if they choose. However, any non-regular staff, like floater staff will be required to wear a face covering at all times.
What changes to pick-up and drop-off are you making?
All camps will utilize a no contact check-in/check-out process. Parents will check in their child from 6 feet away verbally acknowledging their child's name for attendance purposes stating any special notes regarding allergies, approved pick-up contacts, health concerns, etc. A daily fever check (done at home) will also be verbally communicated.
What sanitation procedures are you taking?
We are closely following and staying up-to-date on statewide and industry guidelines to keep our campers, families, and staff safe. To keep us all healthy, we have developed guidelines for daily health checks, physical distancing, increased handwashing, sanitizing of equipment, facility cleanings, adjusted activities, meals and snacks, and drop off and pick up.
