Walk+Roll to School Day Events

Since 1997, Walk+Roll events have been hosted by schools around the world to encourage and celebrate students walking and rolling (skateboard, bike, scooter, and school or SMART bus) to and from school. Walking and Rolling to school is fun, and celebrating those who choose to be active on their way to or from school can also be fun!

You can start with one of the scheduled Walk+Roll events or start your own monthly event. The resources below will help you create an event that meets your needs.

Bike Trains

A Bike Train is a variation of the Walking School Bus. A Bike Train provides students the opportunity to bike to and from school with an adult volunteer. Bike Trains can be a great fit for communities that wish to encourage more bicycling to and from school. If you are already riding a bike, you likely have some ideas of the benefits and considerations of leading a student Bike Train.

Park and Walk

Sometimes students live outside a comfortable walking distance from school, but parents still want to help relieve the congestion of traffic around schools and students still want to be able to walk. A great option is to Park & Walk — where parents drive (or carpool with others) partway to school and then their students walk the rest of the way. You can really Park & Walk from anywhere, but some ideas include city parks, church parking lots, or other meeting spots. You can even get a group to meet at a central location for kids to walk together.
