City Council Adopts New Tourism Promotion Strategy

April 8, 2025  At the April 7, 2025, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the City Council adopted a pair of resolutions to support tourism development, which generates revenue by increasing Wilsonville’s transient lodging tax revenue.

  • The Tourism Development Strategy articulates the vision for the tourism-promotion program and identifies nine broad aspirational objectives and nearly 40 actions to be implemented in three phases over the next 10 years.
  • The 2025/2026 Five-Year Action Plan and Annual One-Year Implementation Plan spells out the short-term business plan in support of the Tourism Development Strategy.

During Mayor’s Business, Mayor Shawn O’Neil praised the Wilsonville Police Department for a successful operation to thwart retail theft. Nineteen people were arrested during the April 3 sting, which resulted in the recovery of stolen items valued at more than $2,600. The Mayor acknowledged proclamations (attached below) in support of Arbor Day, Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Volunteer Appreciation Month.

During Communications, the director of A Safe Place Family Justice Center provided an overview of the organization’s work to help individuals and families in Clackamas County by providing support and safety planning for those victimized by family violence, sexual violence, stalking, elder abuse and other forms of domestic violence. A Safe Place provides advocacy, culturally-specific services, safety planning, counseling, support groups, legal support, law enforcement support, and other services and resources for survivors.

Additionally, Wilsonville Police Chief Rob Wurpes reported the community’s recent crime data, including a detailed look at the impact of the department’s Behavioral Health Specialist over the last two years. Wurpes discussed the department’s emphasis on community policing and remaining engaged with community members.

During City Manager’s Business, City Manager Bryan Cosgrove expressed his appreciation for the volunteer community members whose work supports the City Council and City staff in service of Wilsonville.

“I just wanted to say thank you to all of the community members that participate in our local democracy by serving on boards and commissions,” Cosgrove said. “Local government doesn’t work without people that care.”

The next meeting of the City Council takes place on Monday, April 21, at 7:30 pm. A work session is scheduled to precede the meeting. Both are open to the public.
