Emergency Management

The City of Wilsonville Emergency Management Program is responsible for coordinating and facilitating the mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery activities related to hazards, disasters, and emergencies. The program goal is to maximize the safety of the public, while minimizing property loss and damage to the environment.

  • Mitigation is the effort to reduce loss of life and property by lessening or eliminating the impact of disasters through prevention.
  • Preparedness is a continuous cycle of planning, managing, organizing, training, equipping, exercising, creating, evaluating, monitoring, and improving activities to ensure effective coordination and capabilities to prevent, protect against, respond to, and recover from the effects of natural or man-made disasters.
  • Response phase includes the mobilization of the necessary emergency services (police, fire, and ambulance) and first responders (public works) in the disaster area.
  • The recovery phase focus is to restore, rebuild, and repair the affected area to its previous state after immediate needs are addressed.

While the City of Wilsonville will do its best to prepare and respond to an emergency or disaster, it should be recognized that the responsibility for individual emergency preparedness rest with the citizens.  Check out Wilsonville Ready.com for information on how to be prepared!
