City Council Allocates $100,000 for Community Enhancement Projects, Approves Funding to Complete I-5 Undercrossing Trail
August 18, 2020 — At the August 17, 2020, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the City Council approved the allocation of nearly $100,000 in funds to support eight local Community Enhancement projects. The City receives Community Enhancement funding from Metro, $1 for every ton of wet waste processed in Wilsonville at Republic Services, providing funds to reinvest in the Wilsonville community.
Council authorized the City Manager to execute a contract of about $204,000 to fund the Phase II construction of the I-5 Undercrossing Trail. The new segment completes the path to connect Memorial Park to Boones Ferry Park.
To aid emergency planning, The Council voted to renew the City’s participation in The Regional Water Providers Consortium (RWPC), which provides leadership in the planning, management, stewardship, and resiliency of drinking water in the metropolitan region.
Additionally, the Council approved an Intergovernmental Agreement between the City and the Willamette Water Supply System (WWSS) Commission to fund the Willamette River Water Treatment Plant (WRWTP) Filtration Pilot Study. The study is required by Oregon Health Authority before the WRWTP can increase its future production capacity.
During Mayor’s Business, The City Council voted to approve Mayor Tim Knapp’s recommendation that Breanne Tusinski be appointed to fill a vacated seat on the Planning Commission. The term continues through December 2022.
City of Aurora Planning Commission Chair Joseph Schaefer presented on behalf of the Aurora City Council regarding a prospective appeal to the Land Use Board of Appeals (LUBA) on a Marion County land-use decision to re-zone exclusive farm use (EFU) property near the Aurora State Airport to a rural industrial use.
During the Communications period, the Oregon Department of Transportation updated the Council on five tolling alternatives under consideration to improve I-205 traffic flow and fund future road improvements. A period of public comment is underway through Sept. 16 at oregon.gov/odot/tolling/Pages/I-205-Tolling.aspx
During the work session, South Metro Area Regional Transit staff discussed plans to soon discontinue the Charbonneau-area shuttle after two years because of low ridership.
Because of the Labor Day holiday, the next scheduled City Council meeting is being held on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 7 pm; a pre-meeting work session begins at 5 pm.
